ABOUT POWER
If you want to purchase the UPS, what are things to consider?

At present, purchasing the UPS, many people consider only VA, backup time and its price, but the fact that there are many things to consider. Today, there are different UPS brand names in IT market, which both produce inland and import, and each of them has many models. The new products issue everyday so the users have more choices but the similar specifications (such as VA, backup time, price, etc.) make you confused.
You will not be worry anymore after reading this article. (We recommend you should learn the basics of UPS terms and its technology to understand UPS specification before purchasing the UPS.)

Things to consider before purchasing the UPS

  1. What is the UPS applied to? How much its sensitive are there? And how critical is it?
    • The equipments are sensitive and critical such as measuring instruments, medical equipments, Computer Server, etc. These are suitable for True on line UPS.
    • The equipments are not sensitive and not critical such as PC that use as household or OA. These are suitable for Online Protection UPS or Line Interactive UPS with Stabilizer.

  2. How current condition is in the area where the UPS is installed?
    • If that area has the variable problem, it is suitable for True on line UPS.
    • If that area has not the variable problem, it is suitable for Online Protection UPS or Line Interactive UPS with Stabilizer.

  3. How much VA does the electrical appliance consume?
    • VA must not exceed UPS power supplying. For example, computer with a 17" color monitor consume 300 VA so choosing the UPS capacity larger 300 VA is better.

  4. How are the electrical appliances installed?
    • If the electrical appliances are installed in the nearby area, choose the large UPS for connecting many loads at the same time. Because of space saving and convenience when operation.
    • If the electrical appliances are installed in the wide area, choose the small UPS and connect load one by one. That means connecting an electrical appliance to the small UPS.

  5. How long does the UPS supply backup time?
    • In general, the backup time relates with UPS capacity and the electrical appliances consumption. For example, the UPS power rating 350-500 VA with 7 Ah battery supplies backup power to a computer with 15" color monitor for 15 to 30 minutes. Moreover, the backup time of High Rate battery is 25 to 40 minutes. (all this depend on application.)

  6. Have monitoring and communication software or not?
    • Normally, the users do not pay much attention about monitoring and communication software for UPS. It may because nobody realized that how importance it is. Let us give you a scenario, when power fail for a long time until the UPS is run out of power, the user cannot shutdown the computers in time. All the data and files that have not been saved will be gone. With the UPS software, the usesr can set AUTO Save before shutdown. When powers fail, the software will save the data and files then shutdown the computers. All your data are securely saved.

  7. The reputation of manufacture and after sale service
    • Intention and period of time are the signs of spirits in doing business. The company that has strong intention to do so will certainly offer quality products and services to the customers as well as the continuous development.

  8. International accreditation
    • To comply with the international standards is not easy particularly from the international certified bodies. The manufacturers must develop themselves dramatically to be equivalent to the leading international organizations. And we are proud to be one who certified to those standards and won the awards as the following:
      • Certified Quality management system ISO 9001:2000 from Underwriters Laboratories Inc.® (UL), USA, who is the international certified body for world class organizations such as NEC, MOTOROLA and Hewlett Packard, etc.
      • Certified Quality management system TIS/ISO 9001:2000 from MASCI (Management System Certification Institute (Thailand)) and Thai Industrial Standard TIS 1291-2545 from TISI (Thai Industrial Standards Institute, Ministry of Industry)
      • Certified Environmental management system TIS/ISO 14001 from MASCI (Management System Certification Institute (Thailand))
      • Win Prime Minister's Industry Award 1999 in Excellent SMEs management from Ministry of Industry
      • Win 3 prizes of Prime Minister's Export Award 2000 in Best Thai Exporter, Best Thai Owned Design Exporter who has own design and Best Thai Owned Brand Exporter who has own brand name

With the above awards and certifications, we guarantee that our UPSs and services are reliable and good quality.

The calculation for UPS
To determine the total load power of the UPS, perform steps as the following.

    1. List all peripherals (such as computer, monitor, modem, scanner, etc.) connecting to the UPS
    2. The product nameplate behind each electrical appliance indicates its voltage and amperage.
      • Calculate VA. Multiply Volt by Amps
      • In case of the unit is Watt, multiply Watt by 1.4 to change into VA
    3. Total all VA connecting the UPS
    4. Choose the UPS that can supply enough power to the total VA of all peripherals

For example
To calculate the UPS for a computer operate at 220 volts and 1.5 amps, 50 Watt inkjet printer and 20 Watt modem

Formula:

Therefore:

      • VA of a computer = 220 x 1.5 = 330 VA
      • VA of 50 Watt inkjet printer = 50 x 1.4 = 70 VA
      • VA of 20 Watt modem = 20 x 1.4 = 28 VA
        Total VA = 330 + 70 + 28 = 428 VA

The capacity of UPS that connecting these computer and peripherals safely are larger 428 VA (that is compatible with LEONICS GREEN, Alpha, OA extra 525, ACURA 525 and ASTRA 525 UPSs)

Remark: If you choose the UPS having VA as much as VA of all peripherals, it will supply backup power for 5 minutes at full load. For increasing the backup time, you must add up VA of the UPS or the number of batteries.
